Tunisian leader to IOC

imageMr Abdellatif Ghedira of Tynisian nationality is eventually appointed as the new Executive Director of the IOC, succeeding Jean-Louis Barjol An obvious influential factor for this decision was the current Tunisian Prime Minister and former president of the IOC, Habib Essid, who visited a few weeks ago IOC headquarters in Madrid

The new Executive Director has devoted his career to the olive oil sector He has been the President and CEO of the powerful Tunisian National Olive Oil Board, the Chief Director in the bureau of Agriculture Minister as well, while he has often participated in the IOC meetings as the Chief Representative of his country Here it seems how a large and serious country, such as Tunisia in this case, creates and promotes its executives, and hence its interests, building alliances that result from its economic diplomacy On the contrary, Greek economic diplomacy has quotaccomplishedquot as it is an achievement to be completely absent, without having a Greek at the official mechanism not even a Greek candidacy for the posts of the Executive Director and Deputy candidacy

Mr Abdellatif Ghedira will exercise his duties from January 1 2016 until December 31 2019 The other two final candidates for the post of Executive Director of Spanish and Italian nationality are expected to cover the posts of the two Deputy Directors in March 2016

Let us not forget that IOC was founded in 1959 under the auspices of the UN and along with the EU they comprise the two major decision-making centers of the world olive production The post of Executive Director has great responsibilities as the CEO essentially gathers the power of management of the IOC However, it does not lack privileges, as the annual earnings stand at 200,000 Euros, while at the same time enjoying the ambassador status

The Olivenewsgr is bidding Mr Jean-Louis Barjol farewell and wishes him good luck in hisnbspimagecareernbspJean-Louis Barjol originates from the French diplomatic corps and before the IOC he was appointed the Chief Executive of European Association of sugar manufacturers His service at the IOC is considered particularly successful, not only in terms of the work carried out but also for the diplomatic resolution of contrasts caused by the awkward and arrogant interventions of a Member State We invited and hosted Jean-Louis Barjol in 2011 in Athens as the main speaker in the magazinersquos OLIVE amp OLIVE OIL conference on the subject of quotThe olive sector 2020 visionquot His presentation quotTrends in the world of olive oil and table olivesquot was published in the 75th issue of the magazine
